Innovative Greenhouse, Koppert Cress

Germinating seeds is not rocket science. Even so, it's a huge task to be able to supply a consistent quality in large quantities.

We are growers

This is only possible when you master all aspects of the job. The greenhouses play an important part in this and are the reason why Koppert Cress pays a great deal of attention to the production locations and the techniques that are used. LED lighting, innovative climate control and water management are the most important pillars.

New-build

The most recent section of the Koppert Cress greenhouses is fully equipped with state-of-the-art techniques to facilitate production of high-quality products. These techniques include JSKs, LED lamps, a heated concrete floor, heat recovery, automated roller tracks, insect netting, three different screen cloths, and watering booms. We should be able to keep going for many years thanks to this extension.

JSK

JSK is an innovative heating and cooling system that is positioned between the cultivation tables in this greenhouse. The JSK sucks air into the appliance from above crop level , depending on the season and the weather. It is then cooled, heated, and/or dehumidified before being blown back into the greenhouse from the bottom of the appliance. This system enables Koppert Cress to respond quickly and accurately to changes in the weather, as well as apply and store sustainable heat and cold in the thermal energy storage system.

LED

In our newest greenhouses, we use LED lamps as supplemental lighting for our crops when there is not enough sunlight. Lengthy tests have proven that cresses mainly need red light and a small amount of blue light to grow. Red is the most efficient colour for stimulating growth and is used by the plant to maximum effect. In addition, the plant needs a small amount of blue light to control the shape in which the crop grows. The combination of these two colours produces the ‘purple/pink’ lighting colour that is visible in the greenhouse.
